Less than one week ago we covered a Bloomberg report saying that Samsung could overtake Apple in the race to become the world’s biggest smartphone seller.
Back then, Bloomberg analysts have reported that Samsung could overpass Apple, who sold not less than 20.3 million smartphones.
A couple of dais ago this goal seemed achieveble goal for the South-Korean based company, as it was reported that they sold over 5 million Samsung Galaxy S II units, a number of devices that would help them overtake Nokia and become world’s number one cellphone seller.
But everyone on the smartphones market was expecting Samsung’s official Q2 2011 report, and even the analysts hold their breathes when the Q2 report was revealed.
The analysts were placing the South-Korean company on the second place or even a market leader, in front of Nokia and Apple, but the reported results are somehow controversial.
Samsung didn’t wanted to offer concrete figures about the number of smarptohnes and feature-phone they shipped out, and this led to a lot of controversies.
Taking in consideration the Samsung Q2 2011 report then the South-Korean company might have sold somewhere between 15.6 and 19.2 million smartphones.
Apple shipped out 20.34 million smartphones, shows their report, and Nokia not less than 16.7 million. So there might be a chance for Samsung to place behind Nokia, on the third place, but we tend to believe that they overtook the Finnish company and placed 2nd, right behind Apple.
The interesting fact is that Samsung didn’t revealed the concrete figures, as the preferred to express their sells with percentage values and vague statements, like “a slight decline.” This makes us think that the results are not what they expected.
Even though Samsung Q2 2011 is not spectacular and didn’t made them world’s number 1 smartphones seller, the company registered a 24% increase compared to Q1.
Anyway we hope that the South-Korean official will return in the next days with more precise details.
