RCom To Start Offering iPad Data Plan
Will be the second service provider to do so, after BSNL.
Reliance Communications (RCom) will start offering dedicated 3G data plans for the Apple iPad 2, essentially competing one-on-one against the state-owned BSNL, which has been the sole service provider thus far. These plans will be available in all of RCom's 13 circles. The good news is that these plans will not be bound by a contract for activation or cancellation at any point of time, and the company will not bundle the iPad along with the plans. Rather, customers can buy the tablet from the market and activate the plans at Reliance World outlets.
The plans start with Rs 200 for 1 GB per day, while the unlimited data plan could cost up to Rs 1,200 per month. On the other hand, BSNL offers 3G plans for Rs 99 per day with unlimited data transfer, and a monthly plan of Rs 599 for 6 GB data transfer. At this point of time, there is no word as to when the plans will be made available. RCom's rates certainly appear to be competitive, provided it backs them up with good service.
