Google+ Reaches 20 Million Users In 20 Days
ComScore has released a report regarding the amount of users available on Google+ and it seems like the search giant’s social networking service has reached 20 million users in the first three weeks after launch, which makes the most impressive growth of a website in history.
Analysts are amazed that a website based on invitations has managed to gather so many users in such a short amount of time. One of the websites which recorded high traffic soon after its launch was Twitter, the micro-blogging service which now features more than 200 million users worldwide. Twitter opened business back in 2006, but we should mention that the post-launch numbers are no match for Google+.
Google finds itself at the third attempt to become more social as both the Wave and Buzz services have failed. Consumers didn’t adopted these two platforms because they weren’t social enough and they couldn’t provide “fun” like Facebook or MySpace (during its prime time).
Well, Google made Plus more like Facebook and internet users were immediately in love with the Circles. Google finally found a way to make a social product that is easy to use and that would make you want to come back and share more stuff with your friends.
The advantage of Google+ over Facebook is that users can group their friends into Circles in a better and “optimized” way than Facebook users can organize their Lists. Although some aspects of Google+ look like they’ve been inspired from Facebook, they fade away thanks to the innovations brought by the search giant.
According to ComScore, there are 5.3 million Google+ users in the US, 2.85 million users in India, 0.87 million in the UK, 0.86 million in Canada, and 0.71 million in Germany. The numbers are expected to grow exponentially over the next 10 days when Google+ should reach about 35 million users worldwide.
Google officials have announced that they have big plans for Google+ as it will be integrated into other services like Gmail, Picasa, and YouTube.
It’s a huge blow for Facebook who currently has 750 million users though we shouldn’t be surprised if the largest social networking service will reach 1 billion unique users by the end of 2011 even if Google+ is catching up pretty quickly.
