Rumor: Apple To Invest $1 Billion In Sharp To End iPhone And iPad LCD Screen Shortages
Google buying Motorola Mobility is, certainly, a historical investment. Google announced they will acquire Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc, the company that invented the cell phone back in the 70′s, for $12.5 billion in cash.
Now all the mobile phones and smartphones manufacturers feel that they should also make some big moves, as they feel that their market position might be threatened by Google’s new acquisition.
It seems that Apple are also afraid of the Google – Motorola deal, and now they might invest serious money in display technology. The MF Global FXA Securities analyst, David Rubenstein, claims that Apple may invest about $1 billion in Sharp, which would be their new partner to supply the displays for the coming iPhone smartphones and iPad tablets.
After this information have surfaced, the Sharp shares have raised, but the company’s officials haven’t made any comments regarding this matter.
At the moment, Apple has a money supply of over $76 billion. The Cupertino-based company hasn’t made any important acquisitions lately, but now it seems that they will spent $1 billion to attract Sharp, in order to sign a partnership with the Japanese company, so they will supply the LDE displays of the coming iDevices.
We’ve seen Apple making such moves to ensure a constant parts supply flux before, and a partnership sighed with Sharp could be just what the American company might need.
The Reuters journalists quote an American analyst that claims that Apple’s investment might be made sometimes during this year, and the reason might be the issues they had with the iPad 2 displays lately.
Recently, Apple gave up a partnership with LG over iPad 2 displays and turned their heads towards Samsung, which is a sign that something, goes wrong for the Cupertino-based company.
Anyway, it’s less important whether Apple is investing $1 billion or $1 in LCD technology development, as all iDevices fans hope is not to face backlight bleeding or display bleaching issues anymore.
