Facebook is the world’s largest social network and there is no doubt that the government has hired folks to monitor what’s happening on the website. Lots of police stations are also using Facebook to get information about some folks, including criminals so that’s why it would be better for you to not sign-up or if you do so then keep your details private.
A person in Brooklyn, New York who was wanted by the police for domestic violence has invited the police to come and get him via Facebook. Well, that went well! The Utica Police department in New York was monitoring his Facebook activity closely so they listened to the invitation and arrested the person last Monday.
The man is called Victor Burgos and he’s a 29-year-old male who made it to the Top 10 Most Wanted list of the Utica police. After he had seen his mugshot, he decided that it would be “great” for him to invite the police officers over to his apartment. A police spokesperson has announced that Mr. Burgos was found while sitting at his computer, checking his Facebook profile.
Victor Burgos was a resident in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood and he was wanted for domestic violence, and for harassing his ex-girlfriend. The Utica police had issued lots of arrest warrants on his name, but he somehow managed to dodge the police officers each time until this week.
Utica Police Department-based Sergeant Steve Hauck said that Victor Burgos posted an interesting Facebook status saying: “catch me if you can,” so he gathered a team and decided to listen to the demands of the suspect. Mr. Hauck confirmed that Burgos’ status update included his location and that they found him at the computer using Facebook.
Maybe Victor Burgos was playing Mafia Wars while the policemen came knocking at his door. Anyway if you want to be a real crook, then don’t invite the police at your house via Facebook or other online service. Well, most of the times is best to keep your mouth shut, but now it’s been proven that you need to delete your Facebook account indefinitely.
